Hindi Movie Review: Ghajini Aamir Khan

by @ 6:55 pm. Filed Under:

Ghajini an Aamir Khan production directed by A.R.Murugadoss. Cast included Sanya Sivakumar, Nayantara, Asin, Pradeep Singh Remat, Riyan Khan and of course Aamir Khan himself, so yes the movie was expected to be a hit. The movie right from the first day of the shooting had created a huge hype among the fans of Aamir Khan and also the critics who were waiting with their pens ready for the movie to hit the cinema.

Aamir Khan's sexy shirtless body in Ghajini

Aamir Khan's sexy shirtless body in Ghajini

The story of Ghajini was based on the old and much used concept of short term memory loss faced by Aamir Khan in the movie. However, It had its own unique charm of a different narrative. A new approach to retell the story of revenge. It all fits well, how Aamir and Asin met, the chemistry, the charisma and the comedy is fun to watch. How Asin is killed and how Aamir khan prepares himself for vengeance and helps himself with tattooing himself to remember everything which he forgets. The songs are great; one becomes speechless when it comes to the cinematography. No one can have relevant criticism when it comes to the way Aamir khan movies pay attention to every detail in each and every scene. Every minor detail is given high importance which is rarely found in Bollywood movies but we always find it in Aamir Khan’s production.

Talking about the movie I believe that other than Aamir Khan all of the characters were merely supporting characters even Asin because the whole story revolves around Aamir Khan. Even if there was someone else in place of Aamir Khan then I would say that the movie would have had 60% chances of being a flop. The power packed performance of Aamir Khan made the movie blockbuster which it is today. Of course majority of the audience was here to see Aamir Khan marvelous body which he had to workout on for three months straight and I mean a heavy workout!

Other than that the movie rating is for everyone but parents should watch out when the naked rage takes over the movie as it is harmful for children. A social activist requested the Supreme Court to have the movie rated as adult rating. As a result a few scenes were removed from the movie but still the movie does have some disturbing scenes and parents should watch out.

Even though it had disturbing scenes and OK story line but still critics and the audience came out with huge smiles on their faces after the first show and almost everyone gave compliments. The movie truly speaks for itself by doing a business of 200 crores in the first two weeks and making itself a truly blockbuster, breaking all records of 2008 and opening new boundaries and new challenges for our Bollywood industry. I would not want to rate the movie as it is just a remarkable piece which adds up to the list of Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par and Jaane tu ya Jaane Na but just for official records I would give it a 4.5/5.

Movie Review: Singh is Kinng

by @ 8:25 pm. Filed Under:

The much awaited film of the year 2008 “Singh is Kinng” hits the doors of box office and creating waves. The goers who are planning to watch the comedy flick just keep it in their minds that to watch such a comedy film one has to keep brains behind before fastening the seat belts. ”Singh is King” is full time Paisa Vasool and fun filled joy ride with all the ingredients.

It is a story of two Sikh Characters Happy and Lucky, accidentally Happy becomes the king of crime in Australia, and now it is the duty of Happy from the Village in Punjab to bring back the innocent Lucky back from the world of crime. Did he succeed you would only know after watching the movie.

Bollywood’s most demanding and hit couple Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif  paired in this Punjabi happy drama “Singh is King”. The elements which really made this film a hit were chemistry between Akki and Kat, Akshay as Lucky the village guy with his naiveness, falling in love with Kat who is studying criminology, and trying to rescue the innocence Happy.

Akshay as usual performed very well, his character is little exaggerated but he did justice to his role. This is Katrina’s sixth continuous hit and she looked gorgeous and sexy in the film, Kat is improving day by day with each new film, Neha Dhopia is looking sexy in her outfits and she did a good job. Sono Sood also did well and now he is entering the “A” class film with short characters. Om Puri is excellent in his get up and dialogue delivery so as Kirron Kher.

Pritam really did a good job in directing music, there are a variety of songs,  different numbers with different feelings. ‘Bhotni ke’ is really a funny number and succeeds to bring laughs on viewers faces, ‘Teri Oar’ is a melodious number with the flavor of romance in it, ‘Jee karda’ is upbeat, overall the music is good party scores and the tracks are DJs favorite in parties these days. The surprise is first time Aksay also sang in this film.

Directed by  Anees Bazmi, a film overall very slick, the first half of the film is a lot of fun and very much entertaining with all the punches and timing for the comedy, and definitely with an interesting story line. Some scenes are hilarious like when Akki is chasing the hen or scenes between Akshay and Ompuri. Besides second half of a film is more drama with touch of emotions (very much desi Indian style) in it but it contrasts with first half, and with an abrupt ending.

Just few more things which can not bring down the status of the film but Rranbir Shorey is badly used, Javed Jaffery’s item song was not needed, and even in the film Mr. Aazmi could use more of the same chemistry of Akshay and Ompuri in the second half of the film also to bring more punches and lightness for audience to laugh.

Direction is good in first half but the second half was like the director was in hurry to complete the film.On the whole it’s a worth seeing film and for Akshay’s fans it is strongly recommended film.

God Tussi Great Ho – Hindi Film Review

by @ 4:41 pm. Filed Under:

If I had to watch Bruce Almighty in Hindi I would have bought the dubbed Hindi DVD of the original movie. It is such an insult to audience of Indian films to show them a cheap copy of a popular and recent Hollywood movie. I am all willing to see “inspired from hollywood” material if it is well made and properly presented. Even though ‘God Tusi Great Ho‘ has some moments of charm but thats only because of the talented and the most experienced actors of the film industry that were casted into badly sketched roles. Salman Khan looked a 44 year old uncle trying to act juvenile it was a pathetic and shameless display of attempts on being funny. Priyanka Chopra was just looking good which is all she needs to stay in the business. Amitabh Bachchan, well now he is the icon of the Indian Film Industry but I think he should really retire now or at least save his enegies for world tours and advertisements. His attempts on acting God, were pathetic and it was too obvious that he wasn’t even half heartedly interested in the role he was playing.

Check out Rajeev Masand’s review of the movie on CNN-IBN, he writes:

Written and directed by Rumi Jaffery, the man credited with writing some of David Dhawan’s most entertaining films—Coolie No 1, Hero No 1 and Judwaa—God Tussi Great Ho is ultimately a colossal bore.

SearchIndia reviewed it as outright theft and ugly as hell in their review:

Although these two dinosaurs Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan have been around in Bollywood for a gazillion years, yet their performance in God Tussi Great Ho is not even a millionth as good as that of Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty.

Rediff called it Fake:

Instead the rehash is as loud as its interior decoration, as uncool as Salman Khan’s wardrobe, as ugly as Priyanka Chopra’s nose-ring, and as brain-dead as Sohail Khan’s performance.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

by @ 5:14 pm. Filed Under:

imran khan and the cast of jaane tu ya jaane na

While the world was anxiously looking for Harman Baweja’s Love Story 2050 and waiting for the arrival of a new superstar in the bollywood, Imran Khan made his debut and has won the hearts of the audiences. Imran Khan does not have the muscles, he is not very tall, but he is really good looking. Apart from looks he has the boyish charms and he knows how to act to win the hearts of romance crazy audiences.

Imran Khan is the grand son of Nasir Hussein the legendary Director/Producer and he is nephew of Aamir Khan who also produced the movie Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Imran studied film making at the New York University, in a recent interview he told that he wanted to be a director. Currently he is 25 years old, and a promising career is waiting for him a head.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, is a story of a group of teenagers where Jai (Imran Khan) and Aditi (Genelia D’souza) are the best friends. All the friends in their gang think that Jai and Aditi are in love, they looked perfect with eachother and they spent so much time with each other. So every one thought that they are going to get married after college. But they were wrong, Aditi and Jai were not in love, they were just best friends. As the story unfolds Aditi and Jay learn what the true love is and how they know that they are in love?

You would think that this is another bollywood romantic comedy with a campus backdrop. But honestly it is not just another such movie. The campus backdrop disappears in the first twenty minutes of the movie. This movie is about young people, made by young people for the young audiences. The music is outstanding it is different and hip. I loved the song Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi Mayn and Pappo Can’t Dance. Choreography is brilliant the dances are joyful just like the youth itself should be. The cinematography is great specially the way it captures the lives of the young and the Mumbai Metro, it beautifully captures the buggies, the sculptures the victorian and anglo-indian architectural heritage of Mumbai. Every one acted really well but Imran Khan was like above all. He portrayed the character of Jai so beautifully that you are going to fall in love with Jai. And as Aditi says in the movie “Woh Itna Pyara Hai”.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is also the directorial debut of Abbas Tyrewala. It is a light hearted movie. The comic treatment of characters such as Jai’s mother played by Ratna Pathak Shah, Amar Singh Rathore (Jai’s father) played by Naseeruddin Sha, Inspector Waghmare (Paresh Rawal), Baghero and Bhaloo bhayya (Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan) was amazingly well done. It is not laugh your heart out comedy but its going to make you smile, tickle your heart and make you fall in love. The movie comes as a breeze of fresh air, it is different but not too much. It is unique but not too much, its fun but not cheap and its cute.

Hindi Movie Review – Mere Baap Pehle Aap

by @ 3:45 pm. Filed Under:

You may call him a plagiarist but I am a huge fan of Priyadarshan, the director who gave us hindi movies like Gardish, Virasat and Hera Pheri. If you compare Gardish and Virasat to Hera Pheri and Muskurahat you would be truly surprised to find out how versatile he is. But it seems like he has now focused on comedy movies only. Thats fine by me, I love all his comedy movies and I was anxiously waiting for Mere Baap Pehle Aap. It looked like a typical Priyadarshan movie with his usual team of actors Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal, Om puri and Rajpal Yadav.

I am disappointed. The movie is just below average, you won’t regret that you saw this movie but you are not going to add it up to your list of favorite Priyadarshan comedies. First of all the movie has no story at all, the plot was loose and it looked like that Priyadarsha tried to put together three movies in one go. At first there is a story of a loving father and an authoritarian son, the father often puts his son in uncomfortable situations where he is humiliated and embarrassed by his father’s adventures. He loves his father but he thinks that his father’s friend Om puri is spoiling his father. Now I am not a film maker but I feel that if Priyadarshan had worked on this plot line alone he might have come out with one hilarious movie.

But there is another parallel story of a girl who makes prank calls to Akshay Khanna and claims to be his wife. The girl’s role is played by Genelia D’Souza. Genelia is a Tamil super star. Her over joyed expressions were a bit annoying. You would think that these prank calls would develop into a non stop series of laughs. But unfortunately this plot ends too soon.

Now you start to get worried, Does this movie have any story at all? you wonder. A new plot line begins where the Father finds his long lost lover. Now the son tries to get his father married. This plot works out in next fifteen to twenty minutes and the father is all set to marry the woman he loved. Now what? Priyadarshan then injects a new character to create a twist in the story during last few minutes and then all goes well and film ends with the main characters living happily ever after.

Still there are some moments in the movie which are enjoyable. Priyadarshan is really good at creating memorable and strong characters. In this movie he brings us Inspector Bhawani a woman police inspector. Who often finds the father in humiliating situations and often takes him to the police station on charges of obsene acts at public places. The role of Inspector Bhawani is played by Archana Puran Singh and she is brilliant as always. But since there were so many plots in the movie (or none at all) Piryadarshan failed to provide to all the characters to their full ability. Om Puri, Archana Puran Singh and Rajpal Yadav are almost wasted in the movie. Even though each and every character in the movie was beautiful and the actors did the justice with their roles but Priyadarshan failed miserably to create comic situations, creating climax and story development.

Hindi Movie Review – Krazzy 4

by @ 3:28 pm. Filed Under:

If I were to write a review for this movie in just one word then it would be total krap. I know these are two words but I wanted to use ‘K’. I am so disappointed that I would very much like to end this review here. But I know you my dear readers want to listen more about this movie. It has a nice cast, had the publicity of having three item songs performed by Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Raakhi Sawant. And you have heard that it has a wicked plot and you were promised that it will be a fun movie that you can enjoy with your family. I watched this movie for all the same reasons and I am disappointed.

Story of Krazzy 4:
The plot of this movie revolves around four mental patients. Though they are having different mental problems but all four of them are treated by Dr. Sonali (Juhi Chawla). One day Dr. Sonali takes them out to run some errands. While they are at it, some bad guys kidnap Dr. Sonali. Now it is up to the krazzy 4 team to help Dr. Sonali, but since they are mentally ill no one believes them and they decide to rescue Dr. Sonali on their own.

Review:
This clever plot comes from 80’s Malyalam movie ‘Mukilla Rajyathu’. The plot is wicked and has plenty of room for comedy, emotion, twists, suspence and thrill. But unfortunately director Jaideep Sen fails miserably to give the proper treatment to the plot. With a cast of brilliant actors Irfan Khan, Arshan Warsi, Suresh Menon and Rajpal Yadav, the audience expected a brilliant movie. The actors did really well to fit in their role but the script and dialogues of the movie were so bad that there was literally no room to perform. The movie was full of old and poor jokes.

To spice up a badly treated movie the producers decided to add a few item songs to increase the box office appeal of the movie. Unfortunately the movie of Krazzy 4 is very disappointing, check out Megha Menon’s review of the Krazzy 4 music. It has the item songs filmed on Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Raakhi Sawant. The two item songs caused a controversy when music composer Ram Sampath alleged that the music of these two songs are copied from a Sony Ericsson advertisement, composed by him. The producer Rakesh Roshan reached an out-of-court settlement with the composer. These two songs were not even worth stealing.

Overall this movie was boring, disappointing and at some points very annoying too. Still I think that the actors performed quite well and people can atleast watch this movie for once and then they are free to hate this movie.

Ranbir and Sonam – New and Hot

by @ 3:19 pm. Filed Under:

Bollywood is really progressing now. No one can rule over the box office with only good looks. One needs extra ordinary acting and dancing skills with lots of charisma to keep with the competitors.

I was disappointed to see two young actors debuting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mega budget movie, Saawariya. Their only claim to fame was that their fathers were super stars of Indian cinema. I thought that being a multi million dollar industry, investors in Bollywood should learn to invest their money on really talented people. I was wrong, how could I say that these two youngsters were not talented with out seeing the movie. When I saw the movie, I realized that the two new comers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are brilliant actors.

To be very honest Ranbir Kapoor is an ordinary looking guy with extra ordinary charms on his hand. He acted so well that I finished the movie despite the crappy script, annoying dialogues and heavy-on-eye sets. I loved the song Jab say teray Naina. It is the song where Ranbir is wrapped in a Towel and showing his beautiful, youthful and admirable body. We have seen enough of Salman’s shirtless body. Shahrukh’s abs in Om Shanti Om were sensational too. But these guys are old and they do not excite us the way Ranbir did.
Ranbir Kapoor new sexy and handsome

Ranbir Kapoor Nude in Towel From Saawariya

Sonam Kapoor is definitely not as pretty as Om Shanti Om’s Deepika. But she is definitely a much more talented actoress. Bhansali failed to dress her up properly, he also failed to offer her some classy dance number, but he managed to show the innocence and beauty of the character. It was hard to believe that this Sonam’s first movie. She delivered her lines confidently and succeeded to fill colors in her role.

Sonam Kapoor

I am not saying that Saawariya is a great movie. It is neither great nor good. In fact it is Bhansali’s failed attempt to mixing up art and commercial cinema. But you can not deny the fact that Bhansali made it look beautiful. Ranbir and Sonam were the best choice. Rani Mukherjee gave a mindblowing performance as Gulab ji. But there were also many weak points. For example Salman’s mysterious character wasn’t presented properly. Dialogues were not well written, there were several holes in the script. The sets were great to portray the fictious city but the blue and green scenery became too heavy on eyes after the first hour of the movie. The role of Ranbir Raj’s grandmother Zohra Sehgal resembled a lot like Anari’s Mrs. D’sza played by Lalita Pawar.

Bhansali should realize that not all great stories meant to be filmed and converted to Hindi Cinema. There must be some really great writers with really great and untold stories available in the market. It would be great if for once Bhansali gives us a story that is not told before. He should stop mimmicking the great canvases of legendary stories with his artistic touch. Instead, it would be truly great if he shows us his work with his own canvas and his own true colors.

Movie Review: Hey Babyy

by @ 4:25 pm. Filed Under:

akshay kumar kissing vidya balan hey babyy

Sajid Khan, the tv host show, turned actor, turned director comes up with his first full length movie. Hey baby is a story of three single Indian guys living in Sydney. The motto of their life is to have fun and sleep with new girls ever night. One day someone drops a baby at their door with a note that reads “Kameenay now take care of your baby”. None of them knows exactly who is the father of the baby so they decide to find out. This leads them to find out all the girls they slept with during last two years.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arush, with his trademark comic style. Akshay Kumar is fun and since the first sequel of Hera Pheri we have seen him many times doing similar roles and delivering his dialogues in the same style. Akshay needs to learn how to add variety to his comic style. Akshay is teamed up with Ritesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan. Well Ritesh Deshmukh is one hell of talented actor and fardeen is not all that bad at all. So the team necessary for a hilarious comedy was near to perfect. What went wrong then? Well, actually the plot of the movie had several loop holes. Not only the plot but the script wasn’t perfect too. However the actors tried to fill the gap with the best of their performances. But it was quite evident that the director didn’t knew what he was doing. Sajid Khan definitely wanted us to laugh and yes we did but at the same time he kept us waiting for some interesting aspects, twists or wicked surprises in the movie and it was really very annoying when no such thing came out during the whole length of the film.

The film also had many guest appearances. There were several popular hot bollywood actresses in one song and Shahrukh Khan appeared in one song of the movie. but their appearances were not adding up to the excitement level since we already knew that Shahrukh Khan has a guest appearance in the movie. The movie is fun to watch but you may not want to see it again. They music was not chart busting but some songs were nice, specially Mast Kalandar and Dholna were good numbers.
