Raavan
Aishwarya Rai joins Mani Ratnaam once again for the Tamil language film Raavana which is simultaneously being made in Hindi as well. The Hindi version has a slightly different cast. As I wrote in my previously post that if any one wants to cast someone from the Bachchan family they must cast atleast two of them. For example Abhishek Bachchan is doing Paa with his father Amitabh Bachchan. In Raavan you will see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan with Abhishek Bachchan. The music of Raavan is composed by academy award winning composer A. R. Rahman.

Action Replay
Action Replay is time travel movie set in 1950s. Directed by Vipul Shah, Action Replay’s cast includes Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai and Randhir Kapoor father of Karishma and Kareena Kapoor. There is a slight confusion about the movie’s plot as Warner Bros, issued a warning in the Indian Newspapers to claim that no one has rights to remake ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ in Hindi Language. Rumors are that the warning was targeted to Vipul Shah who when contacted said that his film is not based on the Curious Case of Benjamin Button and that it is actually based on a Marathi play. Whatever the case maybe, one thing is certain that Action Replay has an interesting concept.

Endhiran
Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai work together in the science fiction Tamily Language film Endhiran. It is said that the movie has the highest ever film budget in the history of Indian cinema. The film’s story is based on a Robot who falls in love with a woman. Set to be released in 2010, Endhiran will be Aishwarya Rai’s second Tamily movie in 2010.

Guzaarish
After the disastrous failure of Saawariya, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again signs Aishwarya Rai for his upcoming movie Guzarish. The cast of Guzarish includes Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, music is composed by A. R. Rahman. There are Rumors that Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan will sing a song in their own voices for the movie. The story of Guzaarish will revolve around a married nurse (Aishwarya Rai) who looks after a papaplegic patient (Hrithik Roshan).

Gone are the days when Bollywood was all about fantastically choreographed dances, music, songs, romance, comedy and fun. Today’s Bollywood is becoming more and more sick and full of diseases. Every other manjor film is about the main lead actor suffering from some rare disease and the plot of these movies revolve around their hardships. Bollywood follows the trends and rare diseases are the latest trend. Bollywood’s first family the Bachchans are all about influence. And whats better way to gain influence than to win Awards? To win Awards it is important that Bachchans do projects that follow the latest trends and offer work to atleast two or members of the Bachchan family.

Paa is a the story of a 13 year old child Paa suffering from a rare genetic disorder which causes him to grow older faster than normal people. Amitabh who is 67 year old is playing the role of Paa in this movie and his son Abhishek Bachchan is playing the role of his father. The synopsis of the movie reminds me so much of Brad Pitt’s oscar winning ‘The curious case of Benjamin Button’. However, it doesn’t look like that Paa will start getting younger like Benjamin Button and I thank God for that. I can’t watch Amitabh getting younger. Forgive me but I am tired and sick of watching Amitabh in every other movie.

Abhishek Bachchan, playing the role of Paa’s father Amol Arte. Mr. Arte is an ambitious politician with a mission to save the universe. Vidya Balan plays Paa’s mother and Paresh Rawal plays the Grand father. The film’s music score is composed by Illayaraja.

I personally think that Paa the movie is a silly attempt to gain critical acclaim and emotionally blackmail the audiences into liking the sad story. Paa is also an attempt to build further upon Amitabh Bachchan’s legendary status. If the film succeeds on the box office then we will have to watch him in television ads and see him in movies like Aladin for another decade or so.

3 Idiots aka Three Idiots is Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie which is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani the duo has worked together in the akha Mumbai me world famous series of Munna Bhai. So the expectations from the movie are great and since it has Aamir Khan playing one of the lead roles the expectations are even greater. 3 Idiots is based upon Chetan Bhagat’s novel “Five point someone” which was the highest selling English novel in India. The movie has an amazing star cast, starring Amir khan as Rancho, Madhavan as Hari, Sharman as Alok, Kareena Kapoor as Neha kurien and Boman Irani as professor Kurien.

Story of Three idiots revolves around the lives of three students (Three Idiots) at IIT Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. The movie depicts the lives of young students in universities. The younger audience is the prime target audience of the movie. Aamir Khan has previously played the role of a college student in “Dil chata hai” and “Rang De Basanti”. Both did amazingly well at the box office.

When offered the role Amir Khan was worried to be part of this film because he did not fit into the age group. Aamir initially reluctant to play a 20 something at the age of 44. But Aamir is one of those actors who are good to get make overs for their movies to fit into roles so he worked hard to make sure that he looks younger than what he looked in “Dil Chahta hai” and “Rang De Basanti”.

Director Rajkumar Hirani has said, that he was unable to find the perfect younger combination for the three lead chracters so instead he decided to go with more experienced actors like Aamir khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi to do the job.

Kareena kapoor plays Aamir khan’s love interest in the movie. This is Aamir and Kareena’s first time together in a movie. Aamir Khan has done “Raja hindustani” with Kareena Kapoor’s elder sister Karishma Kapoor and the chemistry between the two looked magical on the silver screen. Today the same Aamir is coming with BeBo and audiences are curious to know if they could create the magic again. Director Rajkumar Hirani understood the need to create magic on screen so according to some sources there are three lip to lip kissing scenes between Kareena and Aamir Khan. Kajol will appear in guest role and T.V. actress Mona singh is also playing a small roll in the film.

The music of 3 Idiots is average. Song “Zoobi Doobi” is a nice song.The song video is amazing and kareena, Aamir khan look good together. Release date for the movie is December 25.Now, lets see if the movie becomes a box office hit or a flop.

With ‘My Name is Khan’, Karan Johar is trying to break free from his usual romantic comedies to step into more serious film-making. Scheduled to be released in February 2010, My Name is Khan is the story of Rizwan Khan who is detained by the U.S. authorities after 9/11/. Rizwan Khan (played by Shahrukh Khan) is a patient of Autism. It is an uncommon disease and one of the characteristics of this disease include difficulties with social interactions. The signs of Shahrukh Khan’s disease are considered by authorities as suspicious behavior.

My Name is Khan is the most anticipated movie since Devdas in 2002. Karan Johar is very careful about not leaking much of the plot details. Film’s cast and crew are also very careful when talking about the movie. Shahrukh Khan has expressed many times that ‘My Name is Khan’ is a different kind of a movie. According to Shahrukh ‘My name is Khan’ is not about terrorism. It is about relationship of an individual with the State, with a religion and with a disease. What I didn’t like about My Name is Khan’s speculated plot is that the main character Rizwan Khan attempts to meet President Barack Obama to clear his name. I can imagine that the typical Hindi movie Formula mind of Karan Johar preparing an emotional and irrational rhetoric for that moment. Karan please don’t do that, let this one be a different movie.

So there will be the usual Karan Johar style of melodrama in the movie. This movie is also highly anticipated because it brings back one of the most loved on-screen couple in Hindi Cinema, Kajol and Shahrukh. Kajol plays the role of Shahrukh Khan’s love interest Mandira Khan, a Hindu Single mom living in San Francisco.

My name is Khan’s music is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Who has worked with Karan Johar before and has also worked in projects produced by Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions. The music release date is still unknown but we can be sure that its gonna be an instant hit. Despite the storyline of the movie the soundtrack would consist of songs for all moods. There will be Bhangra pop, a romantic tune, one theme song in sad and happy versions.

Trailer for Abhishek Bachchan’s upcoming Hindi movie “Drona” is out. We don’t know when the movie is going to be released but honestly we are not very enthusiastic about its release. Looking at the trailers, it seems like a cheap desi rip off several Hollywood movies. For example there is a scene in the trailer when Abhishek is shown fighting with dust monsters a scene stolen from The Mummy. There is another scene in the trailer where Abhishek is leaving behin a science lab that resembles a lot like Norman Osborn’s laboratory from the Spider man. The music is also heavily inspired from the music of hollywood super hero movies.

Eventhough the movie’s trailor looks like a cheap rip of hollywood but the title of movie “Drona” is taken from Hindu Mythology. Dronachariya was the teacher of Arjun in the Hindu epic Mahabarata. He was a master of advanced military arts, including the devastras (the weapons of gods). So I guess if the movie has a story line with elements from the Hindu Mythology than it will be a worth watching movie. If only the title of the main character is taken from the hindu epic than it would be such a waste of time to see Dronachariya pretending to be Spiderman, X-Men or Batman.

Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic is released now and it is not doing well at the box office. But I think thats how they decided to market the movie. Since it is a fun family comedy and released during summer vacations when schools are off and children are bored playing all day. So they would tell each other about the fun new movie they watched and then other children would take their parents to theaters and thats how it will pick up momentum. A friend of mine has seen the movie and she thinks that it is a wonderful movie specially for children, families and romantic comedy lovers (I don’t trust her much when it comes to selecting my movies).

Rani Mukherjee is playing the role of an angel who is sent to earth to help Saif Ali Khan. Saif is playing the role of a busy businessman who suddenly becomes responsible for taking care of four orphan children.

There are lots of similarities between Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic and Hum Tum. Both has Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan, both are filmed in bright colors at trendy locations, and both use animation. Since I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t say how they are using the animation, graphics and visual effects. But I think that since movie is about magic so Kunal must have used animation to create magic.

This movie is really important for Rani Mukherji’s career. Her last two movies (Saawariya, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag) were big disappiontment among the masses and the critics. Media has already started talking about her getting engaged with Aditya Chopra. Which is a sign that Rani’s career is about to touch the deadly lowest level. Same thing happened with her predecessors Madhuri and Sri Devi.

Tashan is one of the most awaited films of 2008. Starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor. This movie is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. Mr. Acharya, who wrote screenplay for the Dhoom and Dhoom 2, is debuting his career as a director with this movie. Produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. We don’t know much about the story and plot of Tashan yet. But rumors are that Kareena will be seen wearing a bikini in this movie, Akshay will be playing the main character as Bachchan Panday, and Anil Kapoor is playing the negative role as Bhaiya ji. Music and songs of Tashan are composed by Vishal Shekhar.

Jodhaa Akbar is story of a romance between a Mughal Emperor and a Rajput Princess. Set in sixteenth century this story begins with a marriage of alliance between two cultures for political gain with the king Bharmal giving his daughter’s hand to Mughal emperor Akbar. Akbar didn’t realize that by accepting the proposal, he is not only attempting to improve relations with Rajputs but also starting a journey of true love.

Historically speaking the marriage had a significant impact on the Indian sub continent. Akbar who became the King at a very young age, has had to fight many battles to gain the control over the empire, he extended his rule and made policies that helped two main cultures and religions come closer. Akbar’s attempt to bring cultural diversity inside the Mughal Palaces changed India forever. His policies affected the lives of millions. But how these policies affected him on a personal level is a subject of great interest in itself.

Ashutosh Gowarikar tries to explore this subject with this film. The story revolves around Jaluluddin Muhammed Akbar and Jodha. Akbar while busy gaining and maintaining the rule of his vast empire, had to win the heart of Jodha. Akbar fell in love with Jodha but then there were politics of cultures, religions and armies. He had to keep every one happy, including Jodha.

When a Hindi film viewer thinks of Akbar the great, the image of Prithvi Raj Kapoor comes to their mind. Prithvi Raj Kapoor played the role of Akbar in 1960’s classic Mughal-e-Azam. Definitely people are going to compare Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodha Akbar with K.Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam. Mughal-e-Azam is one of the most loved Indian movies ever. It was a difficult task for K.Asif to finish this movie in 60s. It took him almost 9 years to finish the movie. It was a lavish production with grand sets, hundreds of extras, costumes and jewelry. There is no doubt that Ashutosh would come up with something much more lavish and grand than the Mughal-e-Azam but would he able to shot it as impressively as k.Asif did? The stories of two movies are totally different from eachother but there are two common aspects firstly they are both stories of Mughals falling in love, secondly they both need extra ordinary sets, costumes and talent to portray the lifestyle of Mughal Emperor Akbar.

A. R. Rehman has composed music for Jodhaa Akbar and it is melodious but there is nothing so great about it. It is nice, very nice but it is not great. But then we can not say anything about the music yet as we haven’t seen how it fits with the theme of the movie. A. R. Rehman is very talented and I think if we are comparing Jodhaa Akbar with Mughal-e-Azam then A. R. Rehman is the closest to Naushad who composed the unforgetable music for Mughal-e-Azam.

Hrithik Roshan is playing the role of Akbar the great. Ashutosh made the perfect choice Hrithik fits in the costumes. He looks impressive, but then he will also have to prove his acting skills. This is the most challenging role Hrithik has ever done. It is a huge movie where he can prove himself eligible to compared with the likes of Prithvi Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar.

Aishwarya Rai, there is no doubt that she is one of the most talented actress currently available. She is beautiful and knows perfectly well how to portray the unforgettable beauty. Then again, she will have to act a lot better than she did in Devdas. Looking beautiful is not going to win her any more audience applause.

Expected to be released on 15 February, Jodhaa Akbar is the most anticipated movie this year. We can debate the impact of the movie on the Indian popular culture, we can compare it with Mughal-e-Azam. But there is no doubt that the most talented people of Hindi cinema has worked hard to make this movie and it is a must watch for all.
