Indian Premier League - Points Table

by @ 3:35 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, Indian Premier League

We have two results to share with you. One is the poll that we conducted here at Desi Galaxy where we asked our readers to vote for their favorite Indian Premier League Cricket team. The other one is the latest points table result of Indian Premier League.

Surprisingly, it feels like the teams that were favorite among our readers are not doing so well in the tournament so far. For example Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkatta Knight Riders is the favorite team of our readers with 427 votes. But Kokatta Knight Riders didn’t perform well and they are currently at the 6th place in IPL points table. They played six matches and lost four of them. Which is something none of us expected. But now they have Shoaib Akhter so lets hope that it will help them improve their position in the tournament. However Shoaib Akhter is an inconsistent performer he will not be immidiately available to join his team against Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians were the second most favorite team among our readers. They are on the fifth position on the IPL points table. They played 7 matches won 3 and lost 4.

Rajasthan Royals team was the least favorite among our readers while it is at the second position on the Indian Premier League Cricket Tournament’s points table. I think we all under estimated them and hopefully they will continue to prove us all wrong. Kings XI Punjab was the second least favorite team on our poll and they are currently leading the Points Table at the IPL with 10 points. They played 7 matches and lost only 2.

The final results of Indian Premier League Cricket tournament would be surprising for all of us. This is the beauty of this new 20twenty format. The underdogs can beat the biggest names of traditional test and one day Cricket.

Indian Premier League Begins

by @ 5:18 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, Indian Premier League, Shahrukh Khan

Indian Premier League is starting tomorrow April 18. This is India’s way to mix up sports with entertainment and generating lots of dollars. It is reported that the television rights to broadcast Indian Premier League cricket matches are sold out for more than a Billion Dollar. The franchises were bought for a total of $750 million. The marketing budget of the tournament exceeds $120 million.

Tomorrow Bangalore Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders will combat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore. Remember that Kolkatta Knight Riders is owned by Shahrukh Khan who will be accompanying his team. Most probably he will appear in the feild with bottles of water in his hands. The team is led by Saurav Ganguly and has batsmen like Ricky Ponting and Salman Butt. It is still unclear whether or not Shoaib Akhter the fastest bowler in the world would be playing for Kolkatta Knight Riders. Shoaib was banned to play cricket for five years by Pakistan Cricket board. However he is appearing before an applet tribunal and Shahrukh Khan is still hopeful that Shoaib will join the team.

Cricinfo and many other Cricket websites announced that they will not be covering the Indian Premier League after the IPL imposed insanely strict regulations on their rights to cover the matches. CricInfo presented their point of view on the website.

Our worst fears have come to pass. Cricinfo, and all other cricket websites, who serve millions of cricket fans, have been subjected to a crassly discriminatory set of regulations by the Indian Premier League that seek to severely undermine our ability to cover the event. Cricinfo’s journalists have been barred from entering the press box, and it has been made clear that agencies will not be able to sell us match pictures.

The Financial Express reports that Indian Premier League has declared peace with media. They had to do that. All these Cricket websites, blogs, portals and forums are actually very good for the publicity and further marketing of the IPL brand.

Deepika and Ranbir in Love

by @ 10:08 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, Deepika Padukone, Love and Relationships, Ranbir Kapoor

Deepika Padukone appeared to watch a few cricket matches and talked a few cricketers casually. Media made stories out of her interest in Cricket and made it look like she is dating either Dhoni or Yuvraj Singh. Even Yuvraj felt like he is falling love with Deepika. How could any one be that stupid? I mean how could a girl, who is only 22 years old, who has just started her career in movies with a blockbuster hit, could afford to fall in love with a Cricketer? It is good to be linked up with as many famous and handsome guys as possible, but taking it longer than a week is not good for Deepika’s newly shaped up Dream Girl image. It is reported that in national media that Deepika was really seeing Yuvraj Singh and flew all the way to Australia just to greet him on his birthday. As soon as she returned back to her filmi life she sent an SMS to Yuvraj telling him that she has found someone else.

Apprantely this some one else is none-other than Ranbir Kapoor. Now Ranbir also had a story of getting linked up with a few actoresses. He was first linked with Sonam Kapoor and then with Deepika. It seemed like media liked Yuvraj+Deepika combination much better and they kept running stories about them. So finally Deepika and Ranbir had to openly admit that they are dating.  Recently Ranbir told all about his relationship with Deepika in an interview. He admitted that they are seeing each other and they do not have any plans to get married immidiately. In another interview Deepika told that she has met Ranbir’s parents, not as a co-star but as their son’s girlfriend.

What happened to poor Yuvraj? Well, Yuvraj has a taste for Bollywood girls. He first dated Kim Sharma, then Deepika for a few weeks and now it is rumored that he is dating Raima Sen.

Shahrukh Khan vs Aamir Khan

by @ 2:31 pm. Filed under Aamir Khan, Cricket, Cricketers, Indian Premier League, Shahrukh Khan

shahrukh-ganguly-ipl.jpg

Recently Shahrukh Khan introduced his cricket team Kolkatta Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League. Even though it was a cricketing event but with the presence of so many Bollywood personalities made it look like a filmi event. It had the entertainment value that could be compared to the release of some new music album or the Mahorat of some new project.

There were players of his cricket team like Sauvra Ganguly, Ishant Sharma, Akash Chopra and

Murali Karthik. Also present at the occasion was Gauri Khan, Sanjay Kapoor, Jai Mehta and Juhi Chawla. Shahrukh Khan presented his team’s anthem ‘Korbo Lorbo Jeetro Be’ composed by Vishal-Shekhar. To add more entertainment value and press coverage for the event Shahrukh Khan also made comments about Aamir Khan.

Recently, Aamir threw a direct question to Shahrukh Khan to explain who is the real number one right now. Aamir is flying in heavenly skies since the blockbuster “Tare Zameen per” which he directed and played a small role in it. Shahrukh was asked by journalists to say something about this and he said:

Aamir is a dear friend and if he says that I’m second to him then it’s a great compliment to him….oops that was a genuine slip of tongue (amidst peals of laughter)…I mean it’s a great compliment to me. We are complete opposites. He is an intelligent, intellectual person, I’m more physical. I do things. He thinks them out. I know his jokes, he knows mine. He is 100% No. 1…I just said Kkkk Kiran…he really loves Kkkkk Kiran

My wife has warned me if I say anything about Aamir she’ll beat me up. She is an Aamir Khan fan.

There’s Aamir, then there’s me and then there’s Chengez Khan I guess…that keeps changing….I’m proud of having learnt a lot from Aamir. One of my biggest desires in life is to do a film with Aamir and learn a lot from him. We should not belittle the importance of Aamir Khan by comparing with someone like me. He is a standalone, one of the nicest gentleman and actor in the country.

Shahrukh is quite right about the two stars doing a movie together. Aamir Khan should really think about doing a movie where he can hire Shahrukh Khan. Or may be Aamir is just a bit afraid that Shahrukh would take away all the glory and credit for such a movie. Just like Aamir Khan did in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s cult classic ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ where he completely overshadowed Salman Khan with his superior acting skills.

Indian Premier League - Fears and Challenges

by @ 2:28 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, India, Indian Premier League

Indian Premier League is going to change the cricket, not only in India but everywhere in the world. Though I doubt anyone would be able to get such huge money involved in the game. It is one of those things that can only happen in India. From celebrities, Industrialists and politicians to a common man, every one loves cricket and there is no doubt that it is the most popular sports in world’s second most populous country. Indian Premier League would change the way cricketers thought of glory, fame and money.

Cricket had a reputation of being a gentleman’s game. With the end of colonialization, new cricketing nations appeared on the cricket horizons. At that time it was considered as a threat to the decency and seriousness of Cricket as a sport. But new nations only brought fame, glory and money to Cricket. Now there is so much involved in Twenty20 Indian Premier League that it got ICCI worried. They are worried about match fixing, corruption, and of course their authority on the cricket.

Gary Kirsten newly appointed coach of India’s national cricket team told CricInfo that IPL brings new challenges. He is not interested in joining the new IPL twenty20 era as yet. He said he is more focused on his new assignment of training the Indian Cricket Team.

Janta Ki Awaz: Your Favorite Indian Premier League Team

by @ 4:14 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, Indian Premier League, Irfan Pathan, Janta Ki Awaz, Priety Zinta, Shahrukh Khan

Ok here it is we give you a chance to vote for your favorite Indian Premier League team. Debate why this particular team is your favorite and their chances of winning the league title. Do you think that the teams with the most expansive cricket players and highest franchise bids are going to give better performances than others? I personally believe that Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata team is going to perform much better. I have the feeling that Shahrukh Khan with his charismatic personality would motivate the team to win the title. It looks like he is really interested in Cricket and knows the game better than the other people sponsoring teams.

Entertainment Industry and Indian Premier League

by @ 4:00 pm. Filed under Cricket, Cricketers, Indian Premier League, Irfan Pathan, John Abraham, Mumbai, Priety Zinta, Shahrukh Khan

In response to Zee network’s desire to create their own sporting content by organizing Indian Cricket League, BCCI decided to organize their own Indian Premier League.

The King of Indian Film Industry Shahrukh Khan decided to sponsor Kolkatta’s team which has resulted into termendous media response for Indian Premier League. Soon Priety Zinta with her boyfriend Ness Wadia joined the league as sponsor of Mohali. Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani is sponsoring Mumbai’s team with the highest bid of 111.9 Million US Dollars.

This was quite enough for creating magnificent market buzz and spark interest among cricket crazy Indians. But then there was a bidding by sponsors to select players for their teams. Chennai made a bid of 1,500,000 US Dollars for India’s star cricketer Mahinder Singh Dhoni. Australia’s Andrew Symonds is part of Hyderabad’s team with the bidding amount of 1,350,000 US Dollars. Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj singh will be playing for Priety Zinta’s Mohali Team.

The groups investing huge amounts in the league’s cricketing event surely recognize the event as a great opportunity for them. Not to mention that the higher stakes involved in the process mean great mind blowing battles between the teams.

Chak De India - Hindi Movie Preview

by @ 3:59 pm. Filed under Cricket, Movie Previews, Shahrukh Khan, Yash Chopra

Chak De India Picture

With the recent disappointment surrounding around the performance of Indian Cricket Team in the world cup and a disastrous failure of Cricket based movie Hat trick, bollywood has had enough of cricket. Perhaps the masters of the Hindi film industry already knew that people want to see something else, something more thrilling than cricket and more glamorous than tennis. And they decided to come up with Indian women’s Hockey team playing in the world cup.

Shahrukh Khan is working for Yash Raj again in Chak De India. Shahrukh plays the role of a Hockey Coach for a girls team in the movie. From what I have read about the story of the movie, it feels like it is the bollywood version of Bend it like Beckham. Directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya Chopra, the music of the film is composed by Salim-Sulaiman (Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Mechant).

Expected to be released in August this year, Shahrukh Khan has already started promoting the movie. Recently he has talked to media about his role in the movie. Shahrukh told that he has played Hockey in college days and he feels that Hockey is neglected in India.

I feel hockey as a sport has been monstrously neglected in our country. I used to play the game during college. In fact, I was quite a good hockey player. So the role was a lot like going back to my past.

Shahrukh Khan Chak De India

Vidya Malvade a tv host and model turned actoress is playing the role of a Sikh girl in the movie. She has worked with Shahrukh Khan in a Santro ad, but working with him in a movie was like a dream come true for her, she said:

it was an amazing experience. We worked together briefly for the Santro ad. Now after having spent a couple of months with him, i realise why he is a superstar. The level of detail character, camera angles, makeup to which he goes during a shot is unbelievable. You have to work with him and others to feel the difference.
