Shahrukh Khan wants Bollywood to invest more in special effects. The actor is on a three month break, during this time he wants to make his production company more tech-savvy.

Bollywood has strange relationship with technology. Of course they have a business to run and the financers are hesitant to invest on something new and non-traditional. Even movies like Krrish and Don don’t inspire them much and the film-makers in Bollywood believe that they can still win the hearts of viewers by showing them romantic, musical dramas. I have nothing against romantic dramas, in fact I love such movies. But I believe that using latest innovative technologies, film makers can even improve a typical bollywood musical romantic comedy. Specially there is a lot of room in the sound department, editing and making the scenes more shockingly new and surprisingly fresh.

There is a similar story on India Times about Bollywood ignoring children’s market.

Despite the Box Office success of Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and Hanuman , Indian filmmakers are apprehensive about taking up children’s subjects.

The children’s film segment is largely unexplored in Bollywood. As Chandida Mukherjee, filmmaker at Comet Media Group that makes films and documentaries on kids opines, “Indian films targeted at the younger audience have all been formula films where the role of the paranormal was dominant. So while Krrish and Koi Mil Gaya had a superhero as the protagonist, Hanuman and Krishna tapped the divine tricks through SFX.”

I personally don’t like neither Krrish nor Hanuman, but I know kids who loved watching these movies. There is a huge market and public demand for hi-tech movies and movies for children. But the reasons behind Bollywood’s reluctance are still a mystery.
