Shimmi Kapoor’s official website is the first and so far the most well designed website run by any bollywood actor. www.Junglee.org.in is the official website of Shammi Kapoor where he published the history and contributions of his family to the Indian film industry. It has many pictures of the Kapoor family and different pages for each family member.

John Abraham is also on the run with his website www.johnabraham.com but John’s website doesn’t give you a feeling that you are in touch with the actor. It looks more like a portfolio of some muscle god. Talking to mid-day John told:

At least once in two weeks. I carry my laptop everywhere I go and join my audience on forums and chats. I do it occasionally because unfortunately, I don’t have enough time.

Aishwarya Rai’s official website www.aishwaryaworld.com is also a comprehensive website. Site’s content a design emphasize more on Aishwarya’s international career rather her bollywood flicks. But the website offers tonns of pictures, wall papers, e-cards and message boards. Ash’s International Agent Simone Sheffield told mid-day:

She receives approximately 4,000 to 5,000 emails on any given day and up to 10,000 or more per day for birthdays, holidays, special events and appearances. It is not physically possible for her to reply to them all — but she does try to read most in large groups.

Shimmi Kapoor’s website was made using Claris Homepage version 3.0. Claris is an old WSIWYG HTML editor for MAC. I guess that Shimmi didn’t know enough HTML at that time so he downloaded it and gave it a try. Most probably he was just playing around with his little computer when he decided to put all this stuff on the web for a larger audience. The main page was created in February 2000. Shimmi Kapoor didn’t hire a web designer to create this portal he did it all by himself while using an Apple Computer. He says:

Even when the dotcom bug didn’t hit the country I was given a small e-world by Apple. I learnt it myself and gradually came up with the idea. However, I have not updated the site for sometime now. But I make it a point to reply my fans.

A Black black night. Black the critically acclaimed movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali sweeps nine awards at the 51st Filmfare awards, including the Best Film. I don’t like filmfare for various reasons. Most importantly the powerplay involved behind the awards. Now why would they honor a POWERPLAY award to Yash and Aditya Chopras? I agree that they have made great movies and has already won Filmfare many times before but why they must be awarded even when they don’t have a movie competing for the awards? Aamir Khan has sent a legal notice to Filmfare, a popular film magazine, for using Aamir’s name and pictures in the promotion of Award Ceremony held yesterday.

Aamir Khan is definitely one of the most sought after bollywood stars ever. He is a pure performer who seeks appreciation from the audience. He stopped attending glamorous award ceremonies long ago. Using his name and pictures in the advertising campaign for an award ceremony made it look like that Aamir is probably looking for the award. The ad was published on February 20 as a promotion campaign for the 51st Filmfare awards. The advertisement shows a photograph of Aamir Khan and a caption that reads, I incited a revolt to win her (the trophy, called lady in black) over!.

Aamir’s Rang De Basanti is doing very well at the box offices all over and his upcoming movie Fanaah is one of the most awaited movies. Directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Yash Raj Films, Kajol is making her way back into the bollywood by this movie.

What is common between Sprite and Sania Mirza? The no nonsense attitude. So I was not surprised but when Sprite brand managers announced that Sania Mirza is their new brand ambassodar. Sania’s approach towards the direct speech, which sometimes provokes controversies, is just the thing Sprite has been portraying in their “Baki Sab Bakwas” ads. I personally think that these would be great advertisements and they will further shape up Sania’s celebrity status. While Sania would continue telling media that I am more concerned and focused on my tennis career but yes I don’t mind doing television ads that portray a certain type of image.

I previously heard that a pre release show of the movie Rang De Basanti was arranged for Indian Air Force. According to the Director Rakesh Mehra, IAF had no objections on the movie and they didn’t request any changes in the movie. But it is now confirmed that Indian Airforce had problem with the movie.

1. The story of this movie revolves around a group of friends. One of them is a pilot for Indian Air Force and loses his life in a MIG crash. The movie is dedicated to “dead MIG pilots.” The Indian Airforce wanted this dedication to “all pilots who have laid down lives”. The producers have already agreed to delete the dedication.
2. The movie shows Defence Minister attributing the death of the pilot to human error. Indian Army officials want this character to be referred as minister and not Defence Minister.
3. Indian Air Force officials wanted a chart to be displayed at the end of the movie, which states that there is a 50% drop in crashes.
4. They do not want the events to be dated to 2002 as it refers to the tenure of George Fernandes.

Karan Johar says that he makes movies for Indians everywhere. His previous movies were a blast at the box offices in major U.S. cities and in the UK. Karan is continously in touch with studios in Hollywood but he wants to take an Indian movie to the Hollywood rather than taken over by Hollywood. When asked how you would take a movie with songs popping out of nowhere to the western audience, would they get it? What Karan replied to this question is the most perfect explaination of songs in Indian movies. Indians should feel proud of Karan that finally he has provided us an answer to such an old question.

Bollywood films are films with songs, not musicals in the old Hollywood tradition when, say, a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers song was a device to take the story forward.

“In our films we stop a situation and celebrate with a song. We celebrate sorrow, joy, anything with songs. It is perfectly normal. But the song does not move the narrative. The west just does not get it when a song can simply be sung out of nowhere. Nobody in a reality setting [in the west] would do this. But we do.”

At the end of a song, actors perform the next scene, which has not moved ahead in any obvious way despite the interruption of a fantastically choreographed song involving dozens of performers and possibly also the battlefield of the India-Pakistan border, the Swiss Alps, Fifth Avenue or Buckingham Palace as a backdrop. “The west may see this as kitsch, or surreal. But for us it is normal.

Is this guy genius or what? I am dying to watch Kabhi Alvida na Kehna and his interviews are making me more and more excited about his next movie. I understand and I do not expect Karan to make another Mughl-e-Azam, but I do expect another fun filled movie with eye-candy costumes, elegant set designs, beautiful choregraphy and my darling Shahrukh.
