I am tired of my boobs - Mallika Sherawat

by @ 3:58 am. Filed under Mallika Sherawat

In a recent interview with the leading Bollywood magazine Filmfare, Malika Sherawat declared that she is tired of her boobs. She said that the initial phase of my career when I needed an exposure is over. Now I want the film-makers to look at the other aspects of my talent.

I doub’t that Mallika would be able to survive with her new properly dressed and no nudity at all policy. Many people visit my blog each day looking for the nude pictures of the actress, they are not interested in her acting skills. Who gave Mallika the right to deny the entertainment to her fans? They do not come here on my blog looking for the reviews of her movie myth. They want to see her in sizzling hot kissing scenes and her MMS clips.

Aishwarya Rai as Umrao Jaan

by @ 4:18 am. Filed under Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Movie Previews

The patriotic and anti-Pakistan movie director, J P Dutta is remaking the classic Urdu novel Umrao Jaan. Written in 1899 by Mirza Mohammed Hadi Ruswa, this novel first appeared on the cinema screen in 1981 when Muzaffar Ali converted Rekha into Umrao Jaan. According to Mirza Mohammed Ruswa, he only co authored this story and it was originally told by Umrao Jaan herself. Most Urdu critics agree with Ruswa’s claim because the poetry of Umrao that appears in the novel was already quite famous in Lucknov where people still missed the famous courtesan who mysteriously disappeared after the revolt in 1857.

J. P. Dutta is remaking the movie with Aishwarya Rai. The main factor that J. P. Dutta should keep in mind is that this is going to be an Urdu movie and to do it correctly he would need writers and actors with command on the Urdu language which is different from Hindi. He would need dialogues delivered in the right accent and right body language. Aishwarya is a great actress no doubt about that but we don’t know much about her Urdu profeciency and how well she knows the character of Umrao Jaan. Rekha did a termedous job in this movie not because she had a good knowledge of the Luknavi culture or Urdu but because she did what the director wanted him to do. You can feel how stressfully she acted but this stress puts her on the trail to display the stress that a courtsean went through. The sets, camera work and costumes were so great that it is nearly impossible to recreate them. Just like Bhansali who failed to remake Devdas even after spending billions of Rupees.

I hope that Aishwarya can portray the well mannered, cultured, poetic and dreamy courtesan who was not only a singer but a literary genius aswell. The music of this movie is composed by Anu Malik, which is again a very bad sign. Anu Malik has absolutely no idea about the cultural and musical background of the movie. Javed Akhter is writing the lyrics and I just hope that Dutta hires some Urdu writers for writing the screenplay and dialogues rather than doing it himself. Abhishek Bachchan is a good choice and so is Shabana Azmi who will be playing the role of Khanum Jan, the courtesan’s mother.

Yesterday Shabana Azmi was honored Crystal Awarn in World Economic Forum, Davos. She has previously worked in classic hindi movies that had taken a lot from the Urdu cultural heritage. Being Muslim, daughter and wife of Urdu poets, Shabana already knows what she is going to do. Most important aspect of her role is that her mother played the same role in the 1981 version of Umrao Jaan by Muzaffar Ali. Recently Shabana Azmi told Hindustan Times about Umrao Jaan:

I am excited about Umrao Jaan where I am playing Khanam’s character which my mother (Shaukat Azmi) played in the Muzaffar Ali’s version some two decades back. It is a challenge though I don’t think I could lay the role half as well as she did. I am enjoying the film… Abhishek is in great form and Aishwarya Rai has put in her best. She looks stunning in the film.

It is impossible not to compare Rekha and Aishwarya when watching Umrao Jaan. Rekha won National Award for this movie and she still captivates the audience with her Mujra performances at award functions. But according to JP Dutta, “But Ash’s Umrao is diametrically different from Rekha’s. Ash is doing it in her own way. And it’s certainly unique and outstanding.”

Shahrukh Khan visiting Times of India

by @ 2:45 am. Filed under India, Media, Shahrukh Khan, bollywood

Shahrukh Khan at time of India's editorial desk

Just yesterday Shahrukh Khan appeared at the Time of India office to work as the guest editor. The horrible and ugly looking Times of India website had this story on 7 pages, while the content of the whole story were not more than five paragraphs and 7 pictures. I am dislike TOI website but since they had Shahrukh Khan so I had no choice but to visit them.

When the king Khan arrived he had to deal with the TOI staffers who eagerly wanted to get a picture, autograph or just touch the star. When asked how he deals with this kind of hysteria every day, the humble Shahrukh Khan asked back:

“How do I stay sane? Exactly the way all of you do.There’s enormous responsibility on you to write correct stories, because it has a tremendous impact on people’s lives. My work isn’t so deep, but it’s similar in that I also touch the lives of people, most of whom are strangers. Meeting someone whose life I’ve touched positively makes me feel good, and also humbled, as I’m sure it does with you. But it doesn’t go to my head. I spend too much time interacting with directors who yell at me for not getting a shot right, just like you have editors saying your story wasn’t good enough.”

The pictures were not good, I guess the TOI didn’t arrange proper lighting and make up for the shots. Shahrukh Khan looks aged in these pictures you can clearly see the wrinkles of maturity on his face but his lips looked just as sexy as they were 10 years ago.

Read complete story and interview here.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Story

by @ 1:49 pm. Filed under Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Karan Johar, Love and Relationships, Movie Previews, Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Shahrukh Khan, Yash Chopra

You may feel that this is just another Karan Johar movie. The title begins with ‘K’, it has Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherji and a multi star cast. But this is not a typical Karan Johar movie. In this movie Karan has tried to take on a mature topic. He is talking about the relationships and changes in the relationships by the time. He has previously, though slightly, discussed the changing relationships in Kuch Kuch Hota hai where Shahrukh Khan after the death of his wife falls in love with his long time best friend Kajol. In Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Karan is showing that mature relationships of married couples can change aswell without any significant changes in the routine married life.

Kabhi Alvida naa Kehna is a story of two couples, Jai (Shahrukh Khan) who is married to Shalini (Rani Mukherji) is living with a split personality. He is a good husband who falls for another girl, Preity Zinta who is also married to someother guy. It begins from flirting and ends up with a collision of emotions and lives.

A detailed synopsis of the movie is available at the Preity’s Blog, here. But I doubt that this is the actual story line of the movie. It contradicts from other story lines that Shahrukh Khan, Karan Johar and Preity has talked about on various occassions. The only similarity in the different versions of the story is that it is a story about relationships changing eventually and developing more mature emotions.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Karan Johar Speaks

by @ 12:25 pm. Filed under Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Karan Johar, Love and Relationships, Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Shahrukh Khan, Yash Chopra

Everyone is curious about Karan Johar’s upcoming movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Movie made into the news when the pictures of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna broke on the Internet. These were the pictures taken by a fan who was there on location in New York and took the pictures from his mobile phone. Karan Johar is not happy about these pictures. Since every one wants to know the story of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Karan Johar decided to break the silence. He spoke to Subhash K Jha about the making of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

Everyone’s curious about your new film.
What for? I’m just an ordinary director making an ordinary film. I guess the curiosity arises from this being my first film since Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, in 2001. Like K3G, Kabhi Alvidaa too has a huge cast. So there are bound to be expectations. Films that involve Shah Rukh and me are usually talked about. They’ve been very successful in the past. But people’s expectations scare me. In my films I’ve tackled marriage, an institution I’m not familiar with. I’m 33 years old and greying. I was quite tired of being counted among the new generation of film-makers. I’m not young anymore – I’ve been in the industry for 10 years, and am qualified to tackle such a mature subject.

So you haven’t done any research for the film?
No, except for emotional research. My cinema is always a result of personal observations. I don’t read, listen to current music or rush to watch every film in town. My education comes from past Hindi cinema and music. I observe strangers, or friends at parties… However, Kabhi Alvidaa isn’t about real people. It comes from a space I don’t personally know, although I do understand it. I created the characters for various reasons. I hope to God no one connects personally with these characters.

Much of the film is ready. Does it look as unconventional as people believe it does?
I don’t know what people expect from my new film. I’ve just made what came naturally to me at this point. I’ve always been a member of the audience even while making a film. Kabhi Alvidaa is a human drama. It’s about marriage and other adult relationships. The last time I directed a film it was rumoured to be modelled on Yash Uncle’s Kabhie Kabhie. This time it is being said that I am remaking Silsila. It’s also supposed to have elements of the film Closer. But that’s not true. I admire Yash Chopra more than any film-maker. That’s why I would never dare remake his films. But all of us film-makers are perfectly capable of doing original work. We just need to apply ourselves.

So what’s Alvidaa about?
I don’t want to say much. Anything I say can, and will be, held against me (laughs). All I can say is it’s a Hindi film like any other. I’ve just fine-tuned it differently.

Is Shah Rukh Khan portrayed differently in this one?
Who am I to even try to present him differently? There has never been an actor like him. He’s my hero and brother. I don’t have to think about how he’ll play a character. He does all the thinking on his own. The character comes from my heart. And then Shah Rukh takes over. He gives a sub-text, graph and everything that a character needs. I wrote a simple character. He gave it the right nuances and complexities.

What about Abhishek Bachchan?
You know, to direct someone whose birthday party you’ve attended as a child, is an emotional experience. I’ve watched him grow up, go out of the country and go through a period of trial and error as an actor. We all feel so proud of him. For Abhishek, shooting is a party. He’s a super-brat.

And Amitji?
Just working with him is an honour. I’d say Amitji’s character is flamboyant; a very unusual character compared with what he has played so far.

And Rani Mukherji?
I love Rani as a person and a performer. She stood by me when I was just starting out. She has been in touch with me nearly every day, throughout the years, without expecting anything in return. She’s like my kid sister. That eclipses her other equally important ability as an actor. Today she’s a rock-solid professional. She did everything to get her character in Alvidaa right.

What about her animosity with Preity Zinta?
Totally untrue. Problems happen when the navigator is weak. I don’t see myself as a weak captain of the ship. Rani and Preity share very little cinema space in my film. And they got along very well. Just because there were a whole lot of stars together in New York doesn’t mean that they didn’t get along.

So how was the shooting stint in New York?
It was the most difficult phase of my life. Those were the toughest three months ever. There were production problems, locations issues and a hurricane, plus everyone was away from home… To shoot away from home, away from sets isn’t easy. In a studio you’re a master of your space. But I still prefer shooting on location. That’s where real emotions come in.

What have those three months taught you?
Today I’m a better production person. I’ve grown older. Got more grey hair. We made lots of mistakes…there were lots of indulgences which we could’ve avoided. The film could’ve looked the same at a much lower cost.

Is your production company going to merge with Yashraj Films?
We’ve been together in every way for a long time. I’m still structuring my own production house. Yashraj distributes my films worldwide. To me, Dharma and Yashraj are one and the same.

Lara Helping Her Boyfriend

by @ 4:12 am. Filed under Lara Dutta, Love and Relationships

Miss Universe turned actress Lara Dutta is dating Kelly Dorji, a TV host, model and a wannabe actor. He is accompanying Lara Dutta on almost every party, premiers, music releases and mahurats. I think poor guy won’t achive much that way because even his girlfriend is having difficulty finding herself a lead role in big banner movies. In a recent Interview she was asked:

Zinda is a multi-starrer film. What are the merits and demerits of such flicks?
When a multi-starrer film fails, everyone gets a little share for it, but if the same thing happens to a solo film, then the lead actors bear the brunt of the failure.

Is this the reason that makes you experiment with multi-starrer films?
This isn’t true. What can I do if I am getting film offers where the star cast is huge? When I find my character worth it, I accept it. It doesn’t mean that I am afraid of doing lead roles.

Well, I personally don’t mind celebrities promoting their love ones. After all they are a couple and helping each other is what couples do. Isn’t this what we all want from our partners? Secondly, I don’t think that people in entertainment industry are so nice that they would hire any talentless person on the basis of his/her contacts.. What you think?

Don’s Girlfriend

by @ 9:13 am. Filed under Love and Relationships, Scandals, bollywood

Mafia Don Abu Salem’s girlfriend Monica Bedi’s bail plea has been refused by a court in Hyderabad. Monica Bedi was arrested in Portugal along with her boyfriend Abu Salem for using fake documents to enter the country. Later they were handed over to Indian Police. Abu Salem was one of the most wanted terrorists in India. He met Monica Bedi at a party in Dubai and fell in love with her. Abu Salem promised to marry Monica but that promise never fullfilled. We don’t know how intimate their relationship was and we don’t even know if Monica had any pressure to live with that guy. I would feel happy if the courts speed-up the process, the poor girl’s only crime was that she loved a criminal.

Sushmita Sen in Chingari

by @ 7:21 am. Filed under Movie Previews, Scandals, Sushmita Sen

After Tabbu in ‘Chandni bar’, Kareena in ‘Chameli’ and Preity in ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’, we will be seeing Sushmita as a prostitute in Kalpana Lajmi’s Chingari.

Chingari is a story of love between a shy postman and a prostitute. Exploitation of women is the basic theme of the movie as it was in Kalpana Lajmi’s award winning movie ‘Rudali’. Chingari is based on a short story ‘The postman and the prostitute’ written by Assamese singer and politician Bhupen Hazarika. Sushmita Sen was not the first choice of director Kalpana Lajmi who first wanted to hire Bipasha Basu in this role after listening no from Bipasha she went to Preity Zinta who refused it aswell. Then she hired Ravena but Ravena got married and became busy mother before the shooting began. At last Kalpana signed Sushmita Sen who eagerly wanted to do this role. Sushmita even reduced her market price by 50% for this movie.

Later the same Sushmita refused to take part in the promotion of the movie. The controversy sparked when the co-actor Anuj Sawhaney told a newspaper that the kissing scene between Sushmita and himself was finalized after 30 retakes (proof he has no brains, why would kalpana like to see him kissing sushmita again and again? Doesn’t she had anything else to do? liar Sala!). Sushmita got angry on this news item and refused to take part in any promotion of this movie. Later Kalpana talked to her and they decided that Sushmita will promote the movie without the presence of Anuj Swahney.
